Minarets Robotics Club by Danielle Johnson

Minarets has recently started a robotics club.  The club was started by math teacher Wayne Pedranti in the hopes of kindling interest for a robotics class next year.  There are around 20 members in the club, and we have meetings during lunch and after school around once a week.  Our officers are Luke Skinner (President), Mitchell Cooper (Treasurer), and Ginger Bellisario (Secretary).

The club is currently working with Lego Mindstorms to try and gain some basic experience with robots.  The robots utilize simple sensors to help it perform tasks.  They are controlled by sequences that you program in advance.  The Mindstorms are very simple and help anyone gain a foundation in robotics.

We plan on competing in an underwater robotics competition.  From the competition’s website:

“The MATE (Marine Advanced Technology Education) competition challenges K-12, community college, and university students from all over the world to design and build ROVs to tackle missions modeled after scenarios from the ocean workplace.  The competition’s class structure of beginner, intermediate, and advanced complements the education pipeline by providing students with the opportunity to build upon their skills – and the application of those skills – as they engineer increasingly more complex ROVs for increasingly more complex mission tasks.”

It would be a great opportunity for our club to participate in the MATE competition and get some hand-on experience building robots.  However, we need money to fund our projects.  In order to do this, we are starting a variety of fundraisers, such as selling poinsettias for Christmas.  If you want to help out, one of our members started an online fundraiser at GoFundMe: http://www.gofundme.com/fo9nfo.  Any and all donations would be appreciated.

If you are interested in robotics, the club is still accepting members.  Contact Mr. Pedranti or Luke Skinner if you are thinking about joining.

My Minarets Experience

Screen Shot 2014-11-06 at 3.25.09 PM

Minarets so far has been a journey. Throughout the four years that I have been here, I have grown to learn more about computers. This school has helped me so much, from presenting in front of big audiences to making a music video in media. my art skills, picture editing skills, and video making skills have improved majorly since freshmen year. An even bigger plus is that everyone is so friendly here, both students and teachers. Everything here is so unique and different. Everyone can be themselves and dress how they want and act how they want. This school has taught me to be yourself and to not judge a book by its cover. it’s also taught me to never give up.

Minarets Media

The Minarets Media classes seem to get better and better every year, there are more ambitious students who want to learn. Students who want to create something beautiful. The Media department allow students to express themselves in many ways and do something that most teenagers are not able to do.

The class helps students grow in their ideas and helps them do what they are most passionate about, they are allowed to speak freely on camera, or just play around with their movies.

Minarets girls soccer team – Savannah Castro

The soccer team at minarets has grown more and more throughout the years i’ve been here.  The coaches work hard to improve the team. And with each season the team gets better. Last year wasn’t the best season for the Jv or varsity. But we worked hard and you could really see how the team worked together. It’s so great to watch the girls grow and get better throughout the season. The girls going out for the team this year are all strong players, and I look forward to growing with them.

Weather

The Minarets weather has finally been different than normal. For enjoys normal forever?

The weather has been clear skies with a sprinkling of tiny puffs of cloud here and there. However, as the temperature is fluctuating, we’re seeing the morning chills of Autumn come around. The mornings leave you shivering, which then bleeds into another warm day. Following through, the night realm goes back to its chilly nature.

We’re seeing a lot more clouds now, and not just the summery white, but the sleek grays and darker ashes. It’s truly a beautiful sight against the blue backdrop. I always look at it as the clouds shaping the sky. Sometimes the clouds blanket the whole skies!

Recently we experienced a shower of cold rain! Such a relief, am I right? Maybe now the plants will thrive again. There was even some snow up in the higher altitudes. I personally hope it rains again soon, we still desperately need it.

As Autumn shows its face to us every day, expect things to only get chillier! Make sure to wear a light jacket for now.

The Minarets Staff! -Brianna Roland-

I would like to thank the Minarets staff. The staff at Minarets have been extremely great. They have been helpful, supporting and more. The staff that we have at Minarets are one of the best because they understand you and they will support you through everything. They will help you achieve your dreams and get you on the right track to be successful. I’m only a sophomore but when I first came here last year, the staff were so welcoming to the freshman, and same goes for this year too! The staff at Minarets work extremely hard to accommodate your needs. They want to see you be successful and they want to help you get you on your way, even if you are a freshman! I am truly blessed to go to a high school with such amazing staff because having staff that understands what you want to do and is willing to help you achieve it is incredible awesome! So, on the behalf of the Minarets students I would like to say a big Thank you! 🙂
